The DIGRESSIONS in Beowulf... Due Wed/Thurs and Friday

Due: Wednesday and Thursday

You need to have a firm understanding of the following:
1. The concept of digressions
2. The plot of the following digressions in Beowulf.. Scyld, Edgtheow, Unferth, Finn and Ingeld, Sigemund and Heremod, Queen Hygd and Queen Modthryth, and Hildeburh

Have these digressions fully represented in your notes. We will be moving to the analysis of these digressions very quickly..  need them down.

Due FRIDAY, February 28th

After class discussion of the digressions...  you will need to pick one of the digressions that you feel BEST offers the best message or teaching that represents (what you feel is) the major purpose of the text of Beowulf.  In order to do this.. you need to discern the plots of each digression... evaluate to determine the major purpose of the text of Beowulf... and associate the story revealed in the digression to the larger text.

This needs to be placed into a typed response.. no length determined... JUST COMPLETE. Recall your argumentative writing style (our 'new normal')...

FINISH BEOWULF by Friday!
